Porters Civic House & Mayor's Parlour
Southend-on-Sea, Essex
This painting depicts Porters’ Civic House and the Mayor’s Parlour, a place of both civic importance and deep personal meaning to me. Beyond its role as a historic venue at the heart of the town, it is where my parents were married, making it a space woven into my own family history.
Being invited to create a painting of a building with such historical and sentimental significance was incredibly special. Through this work, I wanted to honour not only the architectural character and heritage of the space, but also the quieter, human moments it holds, the ceremonies, stories and memories that unfold within its walls.
This project is a celebration of place, memory and continuity, and a reminder of how buildings can carry both public history and private meaning at the same time.
