Kingsford the Barossa

Adelaide, South Australia

Completed as a gift for a childhood friend’s wedding in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, this illustration of Kingsford the Barossa quietly ignited the beginning of Sofiko Studio. Originally built in 1856 as a pastoral homestead, Kingsford carries a rich sense of history that now lives on as a restored wedding and retreat destination just outside Adelaide. During the process, I discovered that the initial reference image I had begun working from was out of date, the side buildings and surrounding landscaping had since evolved, so the piece became an exercise in observation, research, and intuition. I worked across various images online to thoughtfully reconstruct the venue as it exists today, balancing accuracy with feeling. I began documenting the process as a form of accountability, not realising at the time that this project would mark the start of something much bigger.
